News item lead-in, as read by WHYY’s Brenda Jorett this morning:
The demise of Wireless Philadelphia is expected to be resurrected today.
They’re resurrecting its demise? Is this some sort of existential joke?

It’s Kels’s birthday!

Kels with Jen, 21 June 2008.
At 10 years old to Jen’s 12, Kels sort of turns the “big brother” concept on its head.

Here’s Kels’s first comic using Comic Life.

Kels in the pool, 4 July 2006. Photos by Kels and Jenny.
As Jen did, Kels started with one of Comic Life’s built-in panel layouts (frames only, no images or text). My contribution is almost nil: one punctuation mark (“Yes!”) and a few narrowed text boxes.

I showed Comic Life to the boys. The program has an integrated iPhoto browser, so they have my full seven-and-a-half-year, 26,000-image photo library. There was no stopping them.
Well, other than limiting them to one comic each for starters. Here’s Jen’s.

3, 4: Jen and Kels, 17 January 2003; 5: Kels and Jen, 22 April 2003; 6: Argus, Bonkydog, and me, 26 December 2002.
The basic layout is one of Comic Life’s many built-in page templates, providing empty frames into which you can drop photos and overlay text boxes and graphic lettering. I only suggested that he narrow the text boxes to fit the copy (since Comic Life doesn’t do that automatically) and change the “Ping!” from a text box to a lettering item. Other than those tweaks (which he approved), it’s all Jen.

Reuters headline today:
Three days’ mourning to honohonorur 32,500 quake dead
I half hope someone notices and fixes it, but I other-half-hope that it stays this way.
I can see exactly how it happened: The headline originally used the British spelling, honour, and an editor double-clicked in the middle of the word and typed the American spelling, honor, to replace it. Except they didn’t quite double-click, so they inadvertently placed the text insertion point in the middle of honour and typed honor. I’ve done this sort of thing countless times.
Thing is, it was their very last edit—so they clicked, typed, and hit “Publish.” Whoops.
Me, I’d have clicked to the right of the u and hit Backspace.

Speaking of birthdays.
Addendum: Okay, I’ll be a little less elliptical here: April 6 is my birthday. I’m 40!

Jen is 12 years old today!
Feel free to post a birthday greeting here, and I’ll make sure he reads ’em.
